Hassan El-Amin, a native of San Diego, CA has worked extensively as a regional equity actor at many of the LORT Theatres across the country including the Huntington in Boston, the Guthrie in Minneapolis, Portland Center Stage, Denver Theatre Center, the Goodman in Chicago, San Diego Repertory, Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, Sacramento Theatre Company, Penumbra in St. Paul, Milwaukee Repertory, Alliance in Atlanta, Kennedy Center and Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., and the Colorado, Utah, and Oregon Shakespeare Festivals in such roles as Leland in Blues for an Alabama Sky, Lincoln in Top Dog Under Dog, Troy Maxson in Fences, Harmon Wilks in Radio Golf, Booster in Jitney, Floyd Barton in Seven Guitars, Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Walter Lee in A Raisin in the Sun, Prospero in The Tempest, Edmund in King Lear, and the title role in Othello just to name a few.
Hassan Broadway credits include The Lion King in the role of Mufasa and Scar. His voice can be heard on the movie Soundtracks, Tears of the Sun starring Bruce Willis, Walt Disney’s The Wild starring Kiefer Sutherland and Play Station III video game, The Darkness. Television roles include guest appearance as Dr. Thomas Dixon on NBC’s E-Ring.
Hassan has held the position of Theatre Artist in Residence at St. Paul High School of Creative and Performing Arts, Theatre Director Inner City Youth League; St. Paul, MN, Theatre Arts Consultant for San Diego Unified School District, Theatre Arts Instructor and Consultant for Walt Disney Educational Outreach Program in Orlando, FL, Director of Entertainment for Faith & Works; Inc. and he was the Interim Artistic Director for Common Ground Theatre in San Diego, CA
He has collaborated as a writer and director on many new works projects, the World Premiere of Jazz Queens Cast Blue Shadows performed at the Lyceum Space Theatre in San Diego CA, Hotel Swing a stage musical, Speak Easy a spoken word experience both performed at the Baldwin Burroughs Theatre on Spelman college campus, Skirts: Petticoat to Crinoline: A Historical Apparel Experience 1887 - 1950, which had an exhibition at the Camille O. Hanks Crosby Museum of Fine Arts and the Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History in Atlanta, GA, A Mile in His Shoes, a theatrical production celebrating the life of Civil Rights Leader Dr. Joseph E. Lowery, In the Midnight Hour, a “jukebox musical” featuring the songs of Wilson Pickett both performed at the Martin Luther King International Chapel at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA.
Hassan was recently a member of the Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company at the Dallas Theatre Center. He received his M.F.A. from the Professional Theater Training Program at the University of Delaware.
