The Crucible
By Arthur Miller
Directed by Ben Barnes
Thompson Theatre

Out of caution and care for REP patrons and our community, the University of Delaware administration has made the decision to cancel the remaining performances of The Crucible.
Our box office staff will be contacting all ticketed patrons by email or phone in the next few days to discuss options.
We remain hopeful to return in late April/May with our productions of The Whipping Man and Round and Round the Garden. We will keep you informed of their status over the next several weeks.
Thank you for your understanding.

Inspired by the Salem witch trials and written in response to the McCarthy era’s persecution of alleged political enemies, Miller’s still timely masterpiece is a portrait of a community manipulated by fearmongers and driven by paranoia. In order to avoid punishment, a group of young girls caught dancing in the woods feign being possessed by evil spirits, accusing neighbors of being spell-casting witches. Mob hysteria grips the community and innocent citizens find themselves fighting for their lives. A compelling drama of truth, lies, and honor, this powerful allegory reveals how fear and righteousness can drive a society to abandon its principles and enact terrible, irreversible injustice.
